Love Talking

Here is an invitation from one versed in a geancannach – love talking. You are asked to accept her invitation to empowerment by refusing to ‘play small.’

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our dark that frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?"

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you.

We are meant to shine, as children do.
We are borne to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it is in everyone.

And as we let our own light shines, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fears, our presence automatically liberates others.

More (geancannach)

In Frank MacEowen's The Celtic Way of Seeing, he talks about geancannach, which he translates as "love talk."

He suggests that this way of talking to and about your world can reconnect you to that world.

It is not about writing poetry. It is not even about writing at all, though you can use pen and paper if that makes you feel more involved in the process. (I think that perhaps it is my pen that does all my thinking!)

You can do this any time.

Perhaps you are on the city bus and it's getting overwhelming, do this.

Perhaps you are at a job that is your fake job and you are wistfully imagining your easel standing at home, do this.

Or perhaps you have some time to take a long walk to a large city park. Or along the edge of a lake or some body of water.

Or you could just walk very slowly around your small yard.

Wherever you are, try this.

Beautiful is ... fill in with the first thing you notice.

Beautiful also is ... fill in with something else. And keep going.

Do this all day if you can or do it for five minutes every day.

See if it doesn't change you.

See if you don't feel something shift and soften.

See if you don't suddenly start knowing what it is you are supposed to be doing.

In beauty, it is finished.

When we see beauty, everything already is perfect -- just as it is.

The Empowerment of Love Talking (geancannach)

In “The Celtic Way of Seeing,” by Frank MacEowen the author refers to Celtic love talking as an essential meditation practice that hails from the deeply inspired states of consciousness of the wandering bards.

The Celtic love talking is called geancannach. It is essentially speaking your devotion and adoration into the world. This is a beautiful practice arising from the heart’s connection to language. This is not your everyday language. It is an old language and yet in a true sense this language is timeless.

Each of us in our own way is a unique love talker. If you do not believe this writer, look at very young children who have not yet learned to define everything within the limitation of language and form. They have not yet learned to be non-love talkers.

Love talking goes beyond words into a direct knowing beyond words. It is the heart that feels this knowing as a holistic experience. Love talking comes through the heart and not through thinking about how to acquire more information with which to do love talking.
