 Other Anamcara Definitions

Anam Cara, Irish for "soul friend," and as the great Irish poet and philosopher, John O'Donaghue wrote, "Anam Cara's understand where you are coming from and understanding is precious; where you are understood you are at home.

From speech by the then Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern, TD.

--------------------------

In Celtic Spirituality, the Anam Cara friendship awakens the fullness and mystery of you life.  You are joined in an ancient and eternal union with humanity that cuts across all barriers of time, convention, philosophy, and definition

----------------------

To be a soul friend (Anam Cara) is to provide a place of sanctuary to another where, through our acceptance, love, and hospitality, he or she can grow in wisdom, and both of us in depth.

Edward Sellner

Radiant Quotes

"I trust so much in the power of the heart and the soul; I know that the answer to what we need to do next is in our own hearts. All we have to do is listen, then take that one step further and trust what we hear. We will be taught what we need to learn."

-- Melody Beattie

Spiritual Practices for the Spiritual Journey

Communion - Rosenkrantz

On the spiritual journey into the beauty at the heart of who you are we are required to become disciples.  Disciples are those who practice a spiritual discipline.

As Rumi says there are a hundred ways to kneel and kiss the ground.  Each of us is unique in the way that creation flows through us.  Our work is to find that way, or those ways, in which such beauty is best able to express through us.

These practices are not undertaken to improve you.  They are used to remove the dust from the mirror of the heart.  Once you glimpse the beauty of your true reflection then you will clearly see that there is nothing about you to be improved.  We are speaking here of your awareness of being.  You are after all a human being and not simply the human doing you think you are.

There are many practices listed here. Most can be undertaken while living an ordinary life that leads you to becoming the extraordinary life you are intended to be.  Living an ordinary life means that you become grounded.  Thus you can continue to log on and check your  lovemoney.com account, take your children to the football or catch the latest movie while living a radiant life.

After all, there's no separation in the realm of the spirit. We will be adding to these practices almost daily so please return and check out our latest invitation to radiance. However, it is best that you choose a practice that speaks to your heart and stay with it. You are not required to stay with it all your life, although you may.

Here we invite you to discover many types of practice that are invitations into friendship with your soul.   Even if soul friendship is not something you are longing for the practices will help you feel more kindly, more creative and more loving toward yourself and others.

There are many practices listed here.  We will be adding to these practices almost daily so please return and check out our latest invitation to radiance.  However, it is best that you choose a practice that speaks to your heart and stay with it.   You are not required to stay with it all your life, although you may.

There will be different stages of the spiritual journey when one practice speaks to you more than before.  Sometimes, where once there was only a practice of meditation or chanting the heart begins to invite you into prayer or dance.  None of these are better than the other but each of us has a different feel for how the Divine wishes to express through us.  The journey is to allow yourself to feel this still small voice within.

However, there is one thing that is agreed within all wisdom traditions.  This is that in order to paradoxically arrive at the beauty that you have never left you need to practice awareness in some form.  This assists you to awaken to that which is beyond the limitation of time and space and form.  In Ireland we call it the Timeless.  It is the Land of the Forever Young.

Spiritual Practices for the Soul

The Wounded Angel - Hugo Simberg

You can live in this world as a wounded angel or you can accept the invitation to take wing and fly.

One of the worlds greatest practitioners of Love was the 13th Century Sufi Jelaluddin Rumi.  His practice was creating poetry while whirling around a pillar.  Here is one if his beautiful invitations to take wing.

You were born with potential.

You were born with goodness and trust.

You were born with ideals and dreams.

Your were born with wings.

You are not meant for crawling, so don't

You have wings.

Learn to use them and fly.

Rumi knows that none of this potential goes away.  He knows, however, that you have forgotten. The practices outlined to the right are practices that will assist you to remember and take you beyond the primary wound of most peoples lives.  This is the wound of separateness from Love.  All wisdom teachings invite you into the wonder at the heart of your existence.  They do this with words and with practices that invite you beyond the limitation of words.

Without a regular practice to integrate body mind and soul you are likely to keep yourself from your birthright in joy.  This is not something you earn because of good behavior or because you become an accomplished practitioner of meditation, prayer or Yoga.  On the spiritual journey you will find that you learn to live a paradox. You are OK as you are.

This writer will be adding practices over a period of time.  This is now Nov 2008 so please be patient with us.  At this time we are building this site day by day and we intend that within a short time that there will be many invitations  to the blessing that you are available to you here

Creative Writing for the Spiritual Journey

How Writing Can Save Your Life

Writing is a lifeline, teaches Christina Baldwin. It can guide you through life's transitions, reveal parts of your self yearning to be expressed, and even transmit the essence of who you are to inspire future generations.

On Lifelines, the visionary who started the personal writing movement shows you how to save your life in all these ways and more—with only a pen and paper.

Baldwin guides you through these transitions with clear, personal explanations and practical exercises such as:

• Flow Writing —a jump-start for your creative process

• Writing about yourself in the third person—a way to see your life from new perspectives

• The Light Eye and Dark Eye Exercise to fully embrace both the negative and the positive
