Four Ways That Fairy Tales Empower Your Life Kindling the Fire that Needs No Wood Fairy tales are not just quaint tales of old. These wonder tales are relevant to your life. What is the metaphor that you are living out in your life? Are you King Midas who has everything he touches turn to gold and then loses touch with life’s essence? Do you feel you are Beast in Beauty and the Beast, under a spell that leaves you feeling unworthy to feel your true power? Fairy tales can teach you to become a metaphorical hunter and invite new discoveries of the magic and miracles within your own life. These are those discovery ‘Ah hah!’ moments. You will discover new ways of kindling the fire that needs no wood – this is the fire of your creative imagination. Here are four ways that fairy tales will empower your life.
Fairy tales and wonder tales stimulate your imagination. They invite the fire that needs no wood to ignite within you. The imagination is not the intellect. Each has its own beauty and function. Together they give you real power, which is not a power to dominate but the power to create a sense of magic, miracle and wonder within your own life.
One great quality that is needed in life, and particularly in the life of the spirit, is the ability to trust. Fairy tales contain stories of the hero and heroine who trusts themselves and their nature. They triumph over adversity. They are the Ugly Duckling transformed to a swan. They are Beast transformed by a kiss into a handsome prince in Beauty and the Beast. They are Vasalisa who serves and survives Baba Yaga and returns with a skull of fire – a crucible for human creative potential.
Wonder tales and fairy tales are primarily intended to help you remember you’re the purpose of life. Put simply, this is to align with the process of creation as it moves through you. In fairy tales like Sleeping Beauty the metaphor is pretty transparent. You have fallen asleep to the beauty within you and need awakening.
Fairy tales are not to be taken literally. Wonder tales enrich our lives with their metaphorical and symbolic way. Each character represents a part of each of us that we either own or disdain. To live happily ever after means that you become aware of the your timeless nature within form. Storytellers, including this Irish storyteller, tell tall tales. These are told to invite you to stand tall and embrace the power and majesty that is inherent within the creation known as YOU and within all of humanity.
